Vancouver's Downtown Eastside
Vancouver's Downtown Eastside is a scary place, especially for women.
From 1989 to 2002, a staggering amount of women, many associated with the sex trade or with drug use, began to disappear. These women were easy targets because of their transient nature. It was obvious there was a serial killer on the loose.
In February of 2002, Robert Pickton's property was searched on a firearms warrant. During the search, a prescription inhaler of one of the missing women were found. After years of suspicion, he was finally arrested in association of the disappearances of women from the Downtown Eastside. While in custody, he bragged to an undercover cop that he murdered 49 women, and would have murdered 25 more. DNA evidence of 33 women were found on his property; he was charged with the first-degree murders of 26 women. He was convicted of second-degree murder of just six of these women in December of 2007.
The BC Missing Women Investigation is criminal investigation into the disappearance of more than 60 women from the early 1980s until 2002 from the Vancouver's Downtown Eastside._
